bethany-ellisGold medals are becoming common place for Shropshire’s promising young fencer Beth Ellis.

She claimed her second top gong of the season by landing the Scottish leg of the Leon Paul Junior Foil Series.

And that followed up her triumph at Eton earlier in the season.

Fighting in the under-11 section, Beth fenced steadily in her early contests, losing just once in her first qualifying group.

And the 10-year-old Whitchurch Church of England Junior School pupil improved as the competition went on, coming through her second qualifying group with convincing victories in all her contests.

Continuing to fight in the same vein, Beth then raced through the three direct elimination fights and into the final.

That was to prove a tighter contest, but Beth showed both her ever- increasing competitive and skill base and won the final point by forcing her opponent off the end of the piste.

The impressive success moved Beth into second place in the Leon Paul Junior Series, a nationwide set of competitions where a fencers best four results count.

A member of Wrexham Fencing Club, Beth is trained by former British International Jayne Hanlon.

And the big competitions keep flowing for Beth who is due to compete in the English Youth Championships later this month.
