Boy rescued from roof

Wednesday 10th June 2009, 12:10PM BST.

Firefighters went to the rescue of a 13-year-old boy when he got stuck on the roof of a building in Oswestry.

It has led to warnings from firefighters about the dangers of playing on roofs.

A fire crew from Oswestry was called to the scene in English Walls yesterday at 8.45pm.

Crew manager Robin Evans said: “A 13-year-old climbed on to the flat roof at the rear of Boots.”

“His friends had managed to get themselves down and ran off.

“He became trapped and was found by police who requested our assistance.

“Two firefighters used a nine-metre ladder and he was assisted down the ladder by fire service personnel.”

Mr Evans warned against playing on roof tops.

He said: “There may be holes in the roof, you may fall off the edge, you may fall through the building and may not be found for hours.”
