It was officially opened today by Theresa Villiers, shadow Transport Secretary, before representatives from Telford & Wrekin Council, Transforming Telford and members of the town’s business community.

Mrs Villiers, who was about 40 minutes late after signalling problems delayed her train from London, said: “The opening of Telford International Railfreight Park is good news for the
railfreight industry and the local economy.”

Freight trains from DB Shenker, which has already been using the link from the main Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton rail line for Ministry of Defence freight trains, and Direct Rail Services drove
through a banner celebrating the opening.
