Warning after spate of burglaries

Tuesday 9th June 2009, 12:47PM BST.

market-drayton-2People in Market Drayton are being warned against leaving their homes unlocked following nine house burglaries in 10 days.

Police investigating the spate say offenders are going door-to-door until they find one unlocked.

The most recent burglary was of two homes in the Smithfield Road area on Sunday night.

Homes in Quarry Bank Road, Smithfield Road, Longslow Road and Shrewsbury Street have previously been targeted.

Police say the majority of the offences happened between 11pm and 5am, and they believe the same person may be responsible for them all.

Detective Constable Glyn Teggin said today: “Clearly, someone is going from house to house trying doors and then sneaking in once they find a door unlocked.

“I would urge people to remember to lock their front and back doors at all times and especially last thing at night.

“In most of these incidents, they have just been able to walk in.”

What a terrible attitude to have… these people are innocent victims at the end of the day.

Burgulars aren’t invited to come into your homes…
