Sports team’s bid to replace stolen plaque
Tuesday 9th June 2009, 10:59AM BST.

At the bench are: back, left to right, David Sawyer, Brian Morris, Richard Killick, Toby Crowther, Margaret Marsden, Allen Marsden, John Solly and Stella Trow. Front, Christine Sawyer, Joan Morris and Janet Griffiths.
A group of kind-hearted rounders players from a Shropshire pub team has organised a charity match to raise money to replace a memorial plaque which was stolen from their village.
The commemorative plaque to Margaret Hall in Pontesbury, near Shrewsbury, was stolen just two weeks after it was put up, leaving her blind widower Fred devastated.
A memorial bench was put up following a request from Fred after his wife’s death last year.
But members of the Horseshoe Girls rounders team from the Horseshoe pub have now organised a match against the Local Community Police Team from 7pm tonight on the Mary Webb sports field to raise money for a new plaque.

Lesley Holder, from the Horseshoe Girls team, said: “As a number of the Horseshoe Girls know Fred Hall well and were upset that the commemorative plaque had been stolen from Margaret Hall’s memorial bench it was decided to try to raise the money needed to replace it.
“A raffle has been organised and the team and many local businesses have generously donated prizes and tickets are already on sale and going well.”
