Talks on funding for new GP centre
Monday 8th June 2009, 12:43PM BST.
People in north Shropshire who “desperately need” a new medical centre may be a step closer to securing thousands of pounds of funding for it when healthcare managers meet this week.
Shropshire Primary Care Trust will hold talks on Wednesday to review priorities for the trust, and which medical centres throughout the county urgently need funding – including one proposed for Ellesmere.
The aim of the meeting is to review a current list of priority projects to ensure funding is spent on building the facilities which are needed the most.
A site on the Wharf development in Ellesmere was secured by the former North Shropshire District Council last year, and now the funding is required to build the centre.
PCT spokesman Mat James said the meeting would last for most of the day on Wednesday.
“Ellesmere is on the priority list, but they are not ranked. Wednesday’s meeting is to review the list and make sure all the projects on it are still priorities,” he said.
Mayor of Ellesmere Brian Knight said he was keen to see a new medical centre built in Ellesmere soon, as it was something the town “desperately” needs.
“Ellesmere is growing and there’s a lot more people now coming in and so we desperately need a new medical practice, I really do stress that, we desperately need it now,” he said.
