roadworks1Shropshire’s busy A5 and parts of the M54 are to be closed overnight for three weeks for maintenance work.

Work will be carried out on different sections of the A5 between its junction with the Preston Island at Shrewsbury and Junction 7 of the M54 at Wellington.

And work will also be carried out on the motorway, which will mean parts of that will also be closed. The roads will be open during the day.

The Highways Agency today said that work is expected to start on June 15 and last for three weeks. It will be carried out 9pm and 6am. The eastbound carriageway of the A5 will be affected.

Work will also be carried out on the westbound and eastbound carriageways of the M54 between Junctions 6 and 7.

And there will be work on both of the slip roads leading to the M54 at Junction 6.

Highways bosses today said diversion routes will be well sign-posted.

Annie Harris, a spokeswoman for the Highways Agency, said: “It’s routine maintenance work. The work is only taking place overnight.”

Other work which has taken place in recent months has involved a number of roads, including the busy A49 at Dorrington.
