Hall in makeover contest top 10
Friday 5th June 2009, 11:00AM BST.
Powis Hall could soon be getting a makeover from a top British designer after making it into the top 10 of a national competition.
The Oswestry building, which houses the town’s indoor market, was nominated for refurbishment in the YourSpace competition aimed at improving an important community public space.
The competition was run jointly by mydeco.com and The Times newspaper, which announced today that Powis Hall had made in into the top 10.
Powis Hall, which is owned by Oswestry Town Council, in now just one step away from receiving a makeover from Sir Terence Conran, founder of retail chain Habitat.
Leading interior designer Tara Bernerd will also take part in the scheme.
Margaret Chamberlain, Oswestry town mayor, said today: “Obviously this is good publicity for Oswestry and generates interest in the town.”
Powis Hall has beaten tough competition to reach the top 10 as the competition attracted nearly 200 nominations, ranging from hospital waiting rooms and scouts huts to park pavilions.
The public can now vote for their winner in the competition by visiting www.timesonline.co.uk/yourspace
