Council work breaks my heart

LETTER: It breaks my heart to see the vandalism being done by Telford & Wrekin Council to Dale End Park, Ironbridge.
Yes, an up-to-date play area is needed. I take my grandchildren to the park on a regular basis so I’m not opposed to that, it’s the location that the council has taken that is so upsetting.
Five trees are being felled in the chosen area – and at least three of those trees have nesting birds.
Shame on you Telford & Wrekin Council. It seems as though you just can’t wait to destroy this area of natural beauty. The first tree was felled on May 28, another two the next day.
Surely these trees should not be felled until the end of June when nesting is finished.
Maybe the councillors concerned close their eyes when they walk around the car park next to this area; they don’t see the potholes and poor surface quality of the car park.
Or the graffiti-clad recycling bins strewn across at least six parking places – badly needed when parents and grandparents collect their children from school. What a mess.
Who makes these decisions? What’s the betting that the brainchild of this shambles doesn’t live very near to the spot for which they are supposed to care.

Dear Writer, you say that “Five trees are being felled in the chosen area – and at least three of those trees have nesting birds.”
I understand that its a criminal offence and suggest you report it and supply any evidence you may have.
I can see how the Council working is breaking your heart, but it also breaks their heart to have to do any work.
This is a tragic lose:lose situation with nesting birds being the forgotten victims.

Sadly it seems someone making these dumb decisions obviously doesn’t live in our area of Ironbridge nor appreciate beauty at its best. Totally agree honey shame on the Telford & Wrekin council!!! :(

The decision makers in Telford Towers aren’t paid to think…just look at the mess they are making of the roads.

It looks like some of those poor birds have found another home…..don’t tell the council though, they will remove it….;-)

I don’t think the council realised that birds were nesting there, else they would have told them they needed to pay for planning permission to build a nest and then they would of charged them council tax on their abode.

Screemer,
That could be why they evicted them then …;-)

Yet if some local landscaper had done this, the council would prosecute. Remember when a council contractor mowed over a heap of frogs recently, again an offence with certain species of frog, but nothing happened.
One rule for them and another for the rest of us.

you must realise they have to put the play area next to the car park. children and parents cannot be expectedto walk to the old play area might be too much effort!!didnt see a planning application for removal of trees in a concervation area whats the council enforcement officer doing about it?
