Northwich latest on Town’s list
Wednesday 3rd June 2009, 1:40PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town have added a fifth fixture to their pre-season schedule.
Paul Simpson will take his side to Blue Square North outfit Northwich Victoria on Wednesday, July 15 in what will be the first game in the summer preparations for the new League Two campaign.
Despite a revival under new boss and former Stockport and Bury midfielder Andy Preece, Northwich could not avoid relegation from the top flight of non-League football.
It means Shrewsbury will begin their pre-season fixtures with two matches against Blue Square North opposition, with the Shropshire Senior Cup final following against AFC Telford United on Saturday, July 18 at the Prostar Stadium.
Meanwhile, Town officials are still waiting for news on how many of the six out-of-contract players offered fresh deals will commit their futures to Town.
Ben Davies, Kelvin Langmead, Chris Humphrey, Steve Leslie, Darren Moss and Omer Riza are all currently pondering extensions to their deals.
Simpson continues his bid to strengthen his squad with former Bristol Rovers midfielder Craig Disley, who played against Town in the 2007 play-off final, the latest name to be linked.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder scored 25 times in 171 League games before being released by Rovers at the end of last season.
It is understood Disley has attracted attention from a host of League Two clubs.
Meanwhile, reports in East Anglia suggest Norwich could be tempted to launch a bid to lure Grant Holt away from Shrewsbury – despite the 28-year-old insisting he has unfinished business with Town.
