Post mortem on crash pilot
Tuesday 2nd June 2009, 2:05PM BST.
A post mortem on a glider pilot who crashed his aircraft on a south Shropshire hillside is due to take place tomorrow.
Richard Ewels, West Mercia police spokesman, today confirmed that the post mortem was likely to take place tomorrow at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
He said: “It will be conducted by a pathologist appointed by the Civil Aviation Authority.”
“The man’s address has been updated and he is thought to be from the West Midlands, not Worcestershire as previously indicated.”
The incident happened at about 3.15pm on Sunday at the Midland Gliding Club in Long Mynd, Church Stretton.
Paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service attended but the man, who was in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.
A spokesperson for the Air Accident Investigation Branch confirmed that it was looking into the incident.
The victim is believed to be a member of the Midland Gliding Club, which is one of the oldest in the country and located 1,450ft above sea level.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have video footage of the incident to contact them on 0300 333 3000.
