Town waiting as six ponder their options

Monday 1st June 2009, 6:00PM BST.

shrewsnewlogotm1Shrewsbury Town were today waiting to learn whether six out-of-contract players were prepared to commit their futures to the club.

Manager Paul Simpson has requested decisions tomorrow from the sextet of players offered fresh deals after their play-off defeat.

Ben Davies, Kelvin Langmead, Steve Leslie and Chris Humphrey have all been offered two-year extensions, while 12 month deals are on the table for Omer Riza and Darren Moss.

Just how many of those put pen to paper at the Prostar Stadium will prove integral to manager Paul Simpson’s summer plans, and prove a decisive factor in determining how many players he will look to entice to the club as he attempts to build a squad capable of challenging for League Two honours next term.

And many of the six have been linked to interest from other clubs.

Bradford are understood to be keen on Moss as the Bantams look to bounce back from missing out on the play-offs with a renewed promotion challenge next season.

Moss, in his second spell at Shrewsbury after sandwiching a stint at Crewe in between, began last season out of the first team.

But he recovered to win a direct battle with Ben Herd for the right-back position and established himself as first choice during the second half of the season.

Davies’ football consultant Ian Taylor has confirmed there is interest in the midfielder from higher up the Football League ladder.

Pacy winger Humphrey has been linked with Premiership and Championship clubs during the second half of last season, with Nottingham Forest also know understood to be interested.

Defender Langmead is another mulling over his future against a backdrop of potential interest from elsewhere.

Simpson is hoping to build a squad for promotion after the defeat to Gillingham at Wembley.
