Glider pilot in fatal crash
Monday 1st June 2009, 10:30AM BST.
A man has died after suffering serious injuries when the glider he was in crashed on Shropshire’s Long Mynd.
The incident happened at 3.30pm yesterday.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the Midland Gliding Club in Long Mynd, Church Stretton.
Jon Hall, chairman of the Midland Gliding Club, said he could not comment on anything until a full report had been carried out by the Accident Investigation Board.

Sympathies to family and friends of this man.
I remember as a child in the 1960′s going to the Long Mynd and seeing the Gliders flying there. Indeed I saw an accident one time while I was there but thankfully it wasn’t fatal. All I remember was that it was a woman pilot and the Glider had the letter “K” on the side of it.
But I pray that this weekends incident was a one-off accident and does not discourage others from taking part in this hobby.

My sympathies,
luckily gliding is a fairly safe sport, so this kind of thing happens very rarely, so when it happens it makes it even more shocking.

my thoughts are with him and his son Peter who is a fellow Air Cadet at Droitwich Sqn. despite witnessing the accident he has handled his horrific loss well and is still attending parade nights, sympathies to friends and family
