Danny’s staying put at Telford
Monday 1st June 2009, 1:04PM BST.
Top goalscorer Danny Carey-Bertram has ended speculation over his AFC Telford United future – becoming the 14th player to commit to the club.
The prolific marksman – who blasted 21 goals for the Bucks last season – signed a new contract over the weekend that will see him leading the line in 2009-10.
And he has agreed terms despite receiving a more lucrative offer from former club Bath City as well as attracting interest from clubs in the league above.
“I went down to the ground to meet him on Saturday and we ironed out a few bits and pieces with the chairman,” assistant manager Larry Chambers revealed.
“Danny’s happy it’s all sorted and his goalscoring record speaks for itself.
“I know he had other offers on the table and a lot of people had been looking at him, but he never wanted to leave Telford.
“He’s taken a cut in his money to stay here but he’s a good lad and a great pro. He looks after himself and he’s a very good player – he showed last season that he’s a great finisher.”
Chambers hopes to speak with record signing Lee Moore and left wing-back Simon Forsdick in the next few days to sort out their futures with the club.
Forsdick has been attracting interest from Nuneaton Town, where he spent a short spell at the end of last season as he looked to improve his fitness after a long spell out injured.
Meanwhile, Chambers has already started the job of looking for new blood to bring into his squad.
And he revealed that he already had a number of targets he was considering in a bid to improve the spine of the team.
“I can confirm we’re looking to strengthen and I’m looking for a defender, a midfielder and a striker,” he added.
“We have people in mind but there is no rush. There are thousands of players available – more than ever before – and there’s no need to jump in.”
