Police sergeant Rob Mountford had only one vehicle in mind to help him achieve a potential Guinness Book of Records registration.

It had to be a Land Rover.

And Rob, 40, had no hesitation in approaching Shropshire Land Rover franchise, Shukers, to ask if they would sponsor his gruelling 24 hour run up and down Snowdon.

Shukers’ managing director Vernon Hogg didn’t hesitate when Rob said a Land Rover vehicle was his first choice of support for his marathon mountain challenge on July 31.

Particularly as Vernon is a trustee of the Severn Hospice which will benefit to the tune of more than £3,000 in sponsorship money if Rob completes the physically demanding endurance test.

Said Vernon: “This is without doubt one of the toughest challenges I have ever heard about. Rob will be running up and down Snowdon as many times as he can within 24 hours.

“I am delighted that Shukers is involved with a vehicle as a base camp for supplying food, liquid, clothing and medical care.

Rob, a police officer for 23 years, will begin his assent of Snowdon from the Pen-y-Pass car park between Capil Curig and Llanberis intending to run up and down the mountain seven times which will be in excess of 50 miles and equivalent to 28,000ft – the height of Mount Everest.

Vernon and Shukers’ commercial manager Adrian Lenc will be there on the day offering their support.
