FTSE 100 up 0.69%
Friday 29th May 2009, 5:25PM BST.
The FTSE 100 rose 0.69 per cent to 4,417.94, dipping slightly in afternoon trading following a fall in US markets shortly after opening.
Mining stocks led the way on the blue-chip index, with Lonmin up by 8.43 per cent and Eurasian Natural Resources up by 5.79 per cent.
US markets slipped in morning trading, with the Dow Jones dropping 29 points by 12:00 ET (17:00 BST), as business activity contracted.
The uncertainty was reflected on the FTSE 100, which lost some of its earlier gains, made on the back of improved house prices in May.
Several stocks were in the red, led by Fresnillo, which fell by 4.27 per cent, as investors reaped profits made on the silver miner’s recent rally.
Thomas Cook Group also fell, by 3.27 per cent, while Tullow oil dropped by 2.85 per cent.
