Driver admits disposing of crash evidence
Friday 29th May 2009, 2:00PM BST.
A 61-year-old businessman today admitted repairing his car and disposing of the damaged parts after he was involved in a fatal collision with a nine-year-old schoolboy.
David James Lunn, admitted arranging for his Jaguar to be repaired with a new bonnet and burning the bumper after the crash which killed Robert James Gaunt, of Overton-on-Dee.
Robert died of his injuries after he was struck by two vehicles in Wrexham Road in Overton on March 19.
Lunn, of Moorland Avenue in Queens Park, Wrexham, appeared at Mold Crown Court today where he admitted that between the accident and March 23 he performed acts intending to pervert the course of justice.
The acts included arranging to repair his Jaguar, buying a bonnet for the vehicle, and disposing of the car bumper by burning it.
He also admitted two offences of causing death at a time when he was committing offences of no insurance and not driving in accordance with his driving licence.
Lunn is not charged with causing Robert’s death by the manner of his driving, but by being involved in a fatal accident when his Jaguar was not insured and when he was not driving in accordance with a driving licence.
Lunn then perverted the course of justice by disposing of evidence, at Premier Bodies, Old Ifton Collier at St Martins near Oswestry.
Judge John Rogers QC adjourned the case for sentence until June 19 for pre-sentence reports. Lunn was remanded in custody.
