Bucks show Nwadike the door

AFC Telford UnitedMidfielder Emeka Nwadike has seen his AFC Telford United career come to an end after being told his contract will not be renewed.

The 30-year-old is the latest player to be released as the Bucks management team look to improve on this season’s Blue Square North play-off final defeat.

Nwadike made 30 appearances in the season, most of those coming in the second half of the campaign, after he returned from a loan spell at Hinckley.

His highlight came in the play-off semi-final first leg, when he scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over his former club Alfreton.

Despite being a regular in the closing weeks of the season, the former Wolves and Shrewsbury man has been told he could not be certain of first team football next season.

“He’s at an age where he wants to play football but we couldn’t guarantee him a regular game,” said assistant manager Larry Chambers.

“He went out on loan during the season because he hadn’t been playing much and Hinckley wanted to keep him but were unable to do so due to financial problems.

“In fairness, he came back well and ended up finishing the season playing in a lot of the big games.

“He’s been a good lad and great to work with, and we wish him all the best.”

Chambers revealed that Nwadike already had offers on the table from other clubs in the Blue Square North, with Hinckley and Eastwood both keen to get him on board.

Nwadike’s departure leaves club record signing Lee Moore as the only regular first team squad member still to meet with Chambers or manager Rob Smith.

Moore has been away on holiday, and Chambers expects to resolve his situation in the next week.

Meanwhile, he is still waiting to find out if top scorer Danny Carey-Bertram, who is currently considering the offer of a new contract, will remain at the club.
