Beauty spot restaurant to make loss
Friday 29th May 2009, 11:09AM BST.
A controversial taxpayer-funded restaurant at a Shropshire beauty spot which underwent a £2 million facelift is expected to operate at a loss in its first year, new figures revealed today.
The Boathouse Restaurant in Ellesmere is expected to make a loss of £785 in its first year of trading, the business plan tabled by its new operator Shropshire Council says.

The food outlet has not opened for business yet but is within the part lottery-funded redevelopment of The Mere unveiled last month.
In its business plan, released under Freedom of Information rules, the council anticipates a loss in its first year – when it will open in the daytime only – but estimates an annual profit of £33,400 once the restaurant opens for evening meals.
A council spokesman said: “As with any new operation, the business plan remains fluid and it is hoped a surplus will be achieved in its first full year of operation.”
