Good news sought
Thursday 28th May 2009, 11:50AM BST.
A Shropshire leisure company is seeking to lift the credit crunch gloom by offering a bottle of bubbly for the best good news story of the week.
Salop Leisure is joining forces with the Shropshire Star to launch a two-month campaign which is designed to raise the profile of the county’s many feelgood stories.
There are dozens of good news stories in the Star every day, but people only seem to remember the bad news headlines.
Mark Bebb, Salop Leisure’s managing director, said he was tired of the “pessimism and negativity” being caused by the recession and wanted to find a way of lifting people’s spirits.
He said: “Great Britain is still a great place in which to live and work, and I want people to stop talking the country down by adopting a more positive attitude. For every negative story about the recession, there is a positive story about business or personal success.”
So, every week for the next two months, Salop Leisure will be awarding a bottle of bubbly to the people involved in the best good news story from our circulation area, which is featured in the Star. The winners will be chosen by Salop Leisure, in conjunction with the editorial team at the Star.

I think this is a great idea. I totally agree with Mark Bebb – all we seem to read about these days is doom, gloom, critical and often unfair comments. Fantastic and I hope it takes off.
