FTSE 100 flat in afternoon trading

The FTSE 100 remained stable in afternoon trading, ticking up just 4.51 points to 4,416.23.
Intercontinental Hotels headed the risers, closing 5.97 per cent higher, while investment firm Man Group also closed higher, up 5.37 per cent to end the session at 250p.
However, the mining sector slipped, with Lonmin down by 4.06 per cent and Fresnillo falling 4.03 per cent.
In the US, investor optimism sparked by better-than-expected consumer confidence data faded after home sales figures failed to impress.
By 10:00 ET, (15:00 BST) the Dow Jones had fallen 0.4 per cent, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.2 per cent.
