Big names at small theatre are ‘real deal’
Wednesday 27th May 2009, 11:28AM BST.
The organisers of a series of shows with big name stars at a theatre on the Shropshire border have reassured punters the acts appearing are the genuine article.
The promoters have fielded several inquiries from disbelieving callers who simply can’t believe that the likes of Marti Pellow and Tony Christie are appearing at the Regal in Tenbury Wells which seats about 250 people.
Promoter Chris Davis said: “We’ve had a number of people ringing up to ask ‘are they the genuine article?’
“I think people are just mystified as to how you get such a super roster of artists appearing in Tenbury,” he added.
Over six nights next month, the Regal will host Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee, Tony Christie, Ruby Turner, the Mart Rodger Manchester Jazz Band and Marti Pellow.
Mr Davis said that one caller had phoned and said it was wrong to charge that much for a look-alike Acts
He was disbelieving when Mr Davis told him that the artists were the real deal.
Mr Davis added that all the acts were looking forward to performing in a more intimate venue than was normally the case.
He said: “The Regal is fantastic inside, it’s a hidden little secret.”
Tickets are selling well with Marti Pellow’s first night already sold out.
Some tickets are still available for all the other performances.
Mr Davis, who lives in Tenbury Wells, said that he divides his work between there and London.
He added he was planning similar gigs in the future.
