Welshpool carnival – in pictures
Tuesday 26th May 2009, 11:47AM BST.
Hundreds of people took to the streets of Welshpool for the town’s annual carnival.
Crowds flocked to the town to see attractions such as the procession, dog show, dance troupes and much more yesterday.
Trish Hodges, who organises the carnival, said she thought the event was a great success. She said: “I was very pleased with the way the day went and reports I am getting from everyone seems very positive.
“The weather was fantastic and the attendance figure seemed to be very good so I am hopeful it was a great success.”
The procession met at Brook Street Quarry and made its way down Broad Street before finishing at Maesydre Recreation Grounds. Mrs Hodges added: “The parade featured floats and walkers and everyone seemed in really good spirits.”This year’s carnival Queen was Deborah Evans, of Old Castle Avenue in Guilsfield, who led the parade.
The 12-year-old was then officially crowned in a ceremony on the carnival field at Maesydre following the parade.
The floats were judged by Montgomeryshire MP Lembit Opik and Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Montgomeryshire, Glyn Davies.
Mrs Hodges said: “Everything seemed to go to plan and I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped out on the day to make it a great success.”
