paterson1North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson was today due to hold crisis talks with a Market Drayton business owner over the economic gloom.

Mr Paterson was visiting bosses at the Chipnall Sawmill in Cheswardine to discuss the financial problems faced by traders in the district.

The talk comes as Mr Paterson is collating the results of a major business survey launched throughout north Shropshire and aimed at identifying the worst problems for independent firms.

“Today’s visit is part of my routine, where I regularly keep in touch with local businesses about how they are getting on and any issues they are having,” he said.

Issues on the agenda included problems around taxation, regulations and bank charges for small enterprises.

Andrew Davies, Sutton Parish Council chairman was also at the meeting.

Mr Paterson’s business survey was sent to over 5,000 business in the district asking questions about staffing levels and how taxation and rising prices have affected trade. He hopes the results could help shape the Conservative party manifesto.

The pair were then due to meet with the chairman of governors at Cheswardine Primary School.

“Schools are a key part of every village community so we will talk about issues to do with schools,” Mr Paterson added.
