This is the container load of life-saving medical supplies, generators and clothing bound for Malawi after people from across Shropshire generously donated the goods.

Youngsters at Wrekin College gave up time during their half-term break today to pack the container which is going from the college to the Mtunthama region of Malawi.

Bosses from Wrekin Removals sent a team of staff to the college to help load the container free of charge, while the Telford branch of Unison has handed over £500 to help fund its transportation.

The container and its contents will help youngsters at the Wrekin Orphan House, which was built with cash raised by the staff and students at Wrekin College. Students and staff are making their next visit to Malawi in July.

Trevor Turner arranged for the container to be delivered to the college for its nominated charity, Medic Malawi, before launching a “tool amnesty” for carpentry and gardening equipment.

Sally Mostyn, from Wrekin College, who will be travelling to Malawi in July, said: “We had not really imagined we would ever send a container out to Africa.”
