Families led to safety in house blaze
Monday 25th May 2009, 10:26AM BST.
Three Telford families were evacuated from their homes in the early hours when a porch caught fire after a suspected arson attack.
Detectives are investigating the cause of the blaze which broke out in a mid-terrace home in Burtondale, Brookside, at about 1.15am yesterday.
Police, ambulance and fire crews attended and four people from the house were led to safety through a back door by firefighters.
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation by ambulance staff. They were given oxygen at the scene, but did not go to hospital. Families from the adjoining two homes were also evacuated as a precautionary measure. Firefighters dealt with the blaze by 2.02am.
One resident said she and her husband were kept out of their home for about an hour while investigations were carried out.
Another neighbour said the occupants had been helped out through the back of the house before the fire at the front was brought under control. A Telford police spokesman said: “The fire has been recorded as being of suspicious origin and CID officers are investigating.”
