Good morning Buenos Aires!

Saturday 23rd May 2009, 2:00PM BST.

Shrewsbury-born blogger Sally Blake, who lives in Buenos Aires, ArgentinaThese days it seems like everyone’s twittering about Twitter, and in this new weekly column we delve behind the stories of some of our favourite Shropshire tweeters to find out more about them.

We’ve uncovered another gloriously eclectic mix of twitterers for this week’s column, starting with Sally Blake, aka @SallyCatway, an expat from Shrewsbury who now lives in Argentina.

Sally travelled to the country’s capital, Buenos Aires, in 2007 to dance the tango and loved the city so much that she decided to stay.

“I’m a writer,” explains Sally. “And my blog, Sallycat’s Adventures, is read by tango dancers and Buenos Aires lovers all over the world.”

Having been on Twitter for the past few months, Sally says she’s found it very useful for keeping in touch with what’s going on at home.

“I love living in Argentina, but occasionally I can feel isolated and far away from things like the BBC, British TV, British newspapers and books, and of course the British sense of humour!

“Twitter is my window on the world – it means I don’t miss anything. I might be thousands of miles away in a Spanish-speaking country but because I follow @ShropStar, I knew that Shrewsbury Town had made it to Wembley, perhaps even before they did!”

Sally also uses Twitter and Tweetdeck to find other bloggers and twitterers in Argentina, as well as promoting her blog, which aims to inspire those who want a life-changing adventure to live their dreams.

“Send me a tweet and mention the @ShropStar, and I promise I’ll follow you from Buenos Aires!”

Church Stretton podcast producer Julie Hill with her dog BuddyWe’ve also discovered another writer, Julie Hill, who tweets about her podcast for dog lovers @DogCastRadio.

Julie, a journalist from Church Stretton, writes for several dog magazines and has been producing the podcast with her husband for four years.

“I love writing and I love dogs, so I get to combine my two passions!” she says.

“We produce a magazine-style podcast twice a month, which now has over 10,000 listeners from across the globe – if you can think of a country, we’ve got a listener there!”

Her podcasts feature everything from expert advice to interviews with celebrities like TV dog trainer Victoria Stillwell from Channel 4′s ‘It’s Me or the Dog’ and actor Neil Morrissey, who’s the proud owner of a rescue dog.

This week, Julie will be interviewing Kate and Gin, the sensational dancing duo from Britain’s Got Talent.

“We also like to talk to dog owners who have a great story to tell – we had one lady who taught her dog to sneeze on command and a chap who taught his Black Russian Terrier how to kickbox!”

Shropshire heavy metal band Run Fast, Turn Left, fronted by Harlescott twitterer Colin ReesAnother twitterer who’s caught our eye is Shrewsbury singer and photographer Colin Rees, who tweets as @Col_RFTL.

Colin, from Harlescott, has been with the group Run Fast Turn Left for three years, along with four other band members from Shrewsbury and Newport.

“We play heavy metal but our songs are quite diverse,” says Colin. “And we play anywhere that’ll have us on!”

The band have performed regularly at Shrewsbury’s Albert pub and Telford’s Haygate, and Colin says they enjoy touring nationally as well.

“We played at a metal festival in Carlisle last year, which was great. Part of the fun of being in a band is getting to see the country.”

Colin has also started developing his hobby of photography and has just embarked on a project to capture the diversity of Shropshire by taking a different photograph of somewhere in the county every day.

“We’ve got a great little community of twitterers in Shropshire now,” says Colin. “It’s great because you get insights into other people’s lives that you wouldn’t otherwise have a clue about.

“It’s very, very addictive!”
