Shrews fans watching around the world
Saturday 23rd May 2009, 11:05AM BST.
Shrewsbury Town fans around the world will be watching their team today. Here Andrew Owen looks at some of their stories.
Shropshire-born Alistair Young will be watching today’s big game in his local pub in Dallas.
“I have rustled up about twenty U.S. fans over the last week,” says the former Wellington resident.
“I’ll be sitting in my local in Dallas at 9am watching on Setanta. Get an early goal so I don’t have to start thinking about a pint!
“Also, all the best to everyone travelling to Wembley.”
Mr Young went to America to attend graduate school back in 1983 and never came home.
A long-time supporter of Shrewsbury Town, he works as an account representative for a large U.S. pharmaceutical company.
He says: “One of the benefits of living in the U.S. is I have now recruited a number of Shrews ‘soccer’ fans both in Missouri, where I lived for four years, and in Dallas, where I have lived since 1987.
“There are now quite a few sweatshirts and replica shirts roaming around the States as a result.”
