Speeding hotspots warning
Friday 22nd May 2009, 11:52AM BST.
Motorists are being warned police will be targeting speeding “hotspots” across the Oswestry area over the next two weeks after complaints.
Sergeant Andy Pugh, of Oswestry police station, said they are receiving regular complaints from members of the public at their Partners and Communities Together meetings about vehicles speeding in the villages in the Oswestry area.
To try and address this, Constables Pete Dale and Roy Alderwick will be spending a fortnight, from the beginning of next week, targeting hotspots.
The enforcement will be taking place around the clock, particularly around schools.
Mr Pugh said: “Some people say ‘haven’t the police got anything better to do?’ – the reality is that speeding features as a big issue in our PACT meetings.
“Speed kills and I would have thought that the recent Think campaign on TV would have modified people’s driving. However, it is clear that there are still a number of drivers prepared to risk the lives of others in order to save a few seconds.
“Those caught speeding are invariably those living in the locality.”
A speeding offence will attract at least a fine of £60 and three points.

Mr Hugh: Actually Stupidity kills, not speeding albeit the two are often closely related.
Thanx for the tip off and may I wish you every success in your endeavours.

surely tougher penalties for those cought well over the speed limit would reduce the incidence of speeding, I am regularly overtaken dangerously while adhereing to the 60 mph limit particularly on the A5 and on country roads.. motorcyclist are among some of the worst with speeds well in excess of the limits
