Boss tells of Town pride
Thursday 21st May 2009, 11:29AM BST.
Manager Paul Simpson has spoken of the pride he will feel at leading Shrewsbury Town out at Wembley on Saturday.
Simpson has experienced the peaks and troughs of a management career which has now stretched 342 games and seven years.
He guided Carlisle from the Conference to League One with back-to-back promotions, but was sacked by Preston after 15 months in charge at Deepdale in November 2007.
“This feeling is why people are in football,” said Simpson.
“In management, you have to accept there is also going to be the Preston feeling as well.
“I have always done my job to the best I could knowing one day I am going be sacked. You take that side of it but these are the times you have to enjoy.
“It has to go down as one of the highlights for any manager to be able to lead your team out at Wembley.
“It’s something to be proud of and I know I will be nervous and excited.
“But if somebody had offered me this last year when I took over, I would have snapped their hands off.”
Simpson will be well supported by family and friends at Wembley.
“Everybody will be there – my mom and dad, Jacqui (wife), the three boys and loads of friends,” he added.
“It’s a fantastic thing for the football club and everyone.”
