‘Accident lorry’ is traced
Thursday 21st May 2009, 10:56AM BST.
A lorry believed to have been involved in a horrific accident in which a Telford car driver was seriously hurt by flying metal has been traced by police.
The breakthrough came after a photograph of a lorry officers wanted to trace in connection with the investigation into the incident involving Karl Duce, of St Georges, was published.
The driver and owner of the DAF truck from which the near 3ft long leaf spring is thought to have fallen in the incident in Wolverhampton, have now been questioned.
Both are believed to have been unaware of the possible involvement of their vehicle until the photograph alerted them to the prospect.
The piece of suspension, weighing almost two stone, smashed through the windscreen of a VW Golf, hitting Mr Duce, 27, in the face as he was driving in the opposite direction along Wergs Road, Tettenhall, on March 25.
Sergeant Steve Hopkins, from the Bilston Street road policing unit in Wolverhampton, said: “We believe we have identified the vehicle involved and have interviewed its owner and driver.”
Inquiries are continuing.
