For Shrewsbury Town star Ben Davies the club’s crunch Wembley play-off final this Saturday will be one of the biggest days of his life.

But while the 27-year-old is busy training for the pivotal match, he also has one of the most special days of his life to prepare for – his wedding day.

Ben is due to tie the knot to his girlfriend of four years Lisa Wheelton in Lincolnshire exactly two weeks after the match against Gillingham – leaving him little time to prepare for the wedding.

The midfielder said: “It’s taken my mind off Wembley a bit in a good way. With such a big game everyone can get carried away and wrapped up which means you are then mentally exhausted.

“I said to Lisa I will have more time to prepare when the season finished after the Dagenham game and then I had to postpone it until after Bury and now until after Wembley just two weeks before the wedding.

“Lisa is really understanding of how important the next couple of days are for me training.”

Lisa, a 24-year-old trainee property solicitor, said: “It’s been hard for me. Our mums have really helped us out a lot though.

“I’ve done all the planning for the day and organising and everything I can for Ben. But the two things I can’t do for him are choosing his ring and his shoes.”
