Four hurt in smash
Wednesday 20th May 2009, 11:52AM BST.
Four people were hurt when a van and car collided in Mid Wales.
One woman had to be cut free from her vehicle, while three others were taken to hospital by ambulance suffering minor injuries.
The incident happened on the A489, about two miles east of Newtown, yesterday at about 11.30am.
Rob Luke, of Newtown fire station, said: “The accident involved a car and a van. There were four casualties in total and one female had to be released from the car by fire service personnel using hydraulic cutting equipment. The road was closed for about one hour.”

And let’s be clear – the casualties WEREN’T just “taken to hospital” by ambulance.
The ambulance staff would have been in attendance, assisting fire service personnel and also TREATING casualties and stabilising them at the scene (as well as enroute – they don’t just ‘taxi’ them down to hospital!)
I’m not blaming fire service staff particularly – the media and ambulance service themselves are just as much to blame sometimes – but can we get out of this mentality that the fire service did everything at the scene and that the ambulance just transported them to hospital???
Anyone who has ever been in a serious road crash and lived to tell the tale should know that just isn’t true.

Wow…someones a bit touchy there! I’d have thought “minor injuries” was the giveaway. The ambulance crews do not cut people from cars so why such a fuss? They did their job as far as this report reads.
