Businesses reach Star Idea semi-final stage
Wednesday 20th May 2009, 7:58PM BST.
Eight Shropshire inventors and entrepreneurs are one step closer to winning a potentially life-changing prize after reaching the semi-finals of the Star Idea competition.
The Shropshire Star’s Dragons Den-style competition attracted entries from entrepreneurs desperate to get their business idea off the ground.
From all four corners of the county, companies and individuals set out their business ideas and how they would use the cash to help launch the next stage of their venture.
This year’s lucky winner will receive £4,000 in cash, plus priceless business support.
The ideas have been whittled down to a shortlist of eight who will be pitching their ideas to the Star Idea judging panel tomorrow.
The Star Idea panel is made up of Diana Thompson of the E-Innovation Centre in Telford, Peter Pawsey from the Rural Regeneration Zone, and Ian Morris of Turner Peachey chartered accountants and the Star’s Business Editor Amy Bould.
Three finalists will be chosen and videos of their presentation will be published on the Shropshire Star’s website for readers to vote for their favourite idea or invention.
The ultimate winner will be announced at the Shropshire Business Awards on July 3, organised by the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce with the Shropshire Star.
