Shropshire’s females on top form

libby-naylorShropshire’s female internationals were in fine form at Telford Stadium.

Shrewsbury AC’s Anna Kelly won the long jump, 4.95m, and triple jump 11.62m and Telford AC’s Claire Martin set a new championship best in the 3,000m, slicing 26 seconds off the previous best finishing in 9.58.8.

Oswestry’s Alison Tickner, who set two women’s masters championship bests last year, set another two in different events this year.

She won the triple jump with 9.23m and javelin throwing 21.71m and also won the 3000m.

Jane Oliver of Telford AC was a double winner setting a championship best of 19.1 in the 100m hurdles and 4.30m in the long jump.

Shrewsbury AC’s Pat Higgins was another double gold medalist in the shot (6.94m) and hammer 26.80m.

Telford AC’s Jack Brothers was the only under-13 boy to set a new best as he sliced a whole second off the 75m hurdles best in 14.0.

B Gutteridge from Bedstone College was a double throws winner as he collected gold in the shot, 5.71m and discus 15.73m.

The Bevan brothers, from Bridgnorth AC, continued their impressive progress in the javelin as Rhys won the under-13 boys event throwing 30.66m, a Grade 2 performance, while older brother Huw won the under-15s, throwing 39.81m.

Callum Rubery set a new championship best in the under-15’s discus breaking a mark that has stood since 1989, as he threw a Grade 1 distance of 38.87m.

The Telford AC athlete won the shot with 10.54m and hammer with 25.43m.

Shrewsbury’s junior international, Andrew Jones, showed he is on the way back to his best after injury as he won the senior men’s 100m in 10.9 and produced a Grade 1 performance of 7.08m (long jump).

His team-mate Jason Green, was another double winner in the pole vault 3.50m and javelin 39.01, while Telford AC’s Chris Davies set a new championship best in the 3,000m winning in 8.30.2.

Telford AC’s Ian Taylor was in fine form in the Masters age group where he set three new championship bests with throws of 40m (hammer), 43.81m (discus) and 12.20m (shot).

His team-mate Jamie Wilkinson set a new best in the javelin with 50.55m while John Bradley, the European over-65s champion, won the pole vault clearing 2.70m and 1.10 in the high jump.

Bridgnorth’s Richard Cotham improved his own championship best in the 200m to 27.1 and also won the 100m in 13.2.

Oswestry’s S Roberts set two new championship bests in the 3,000m with 10.43 and 1500m in 5.06.8.
