Woman jailed for second stabbing
Monday 18th May 2009, 6:00PM BST.
A 59-year-old Telford woman jailed six years ago for the attempted murder of her husband after stabbing him in the chest was jailed again today after stabbing her new partner.
Jacqueline Hodgson, of Singer Road, Dawley, admitted unlawfully and maliciously wounding Mark Alvis on September 11 last year.
Shrewsbury Crown Court heard today Hodgson was jailed for three years in 2003 for the attempted murder of her husband John Hodgson.
Judge Robin Onions said the current incident, when Mr Alvis was stabbed in the leg, arm and hand, was “ala-rmingly” similar and believed Hodgson posed a risk of serious harm, while under the influence of alcohol, to the people she was close to.
He said: “I have to pass an extended sentence for the protection of the public. That sentence will be four years, two years will be a custodial element and you will then be on licence.”
Judge Onions added: “What worries me is the parallels between the last offence and the present offence.”
Mrs Joanne Griffiths, for Hodgson, said her client had been a full-time carer for her husband for 14 years and had a breakdown before the incident which led to the attempted murder conviction.
She told the court the present incident had arisen after Mr Alvis had spoken critically of Mr Hodgson, who had since passed away.

She shouldnt be let out of jail after the first time. Anyone who attempts murder or murders someone, should be in jail till the day they die.

What on Earth????
2 years? I thought the courts were supposed to be tough on domestic violence!
Or is that just against men??
Would have thought this was a case of sexual discrimination… I bet a bloke who stabbed his former partner, served a jail term and then did the exact same thing would have got more like 7 years!
This is a disgrace!

Proof, it ever it was needed, that Judges have gone soft on crime. Some time back she got three years for her first offence, now she gets only two years for the second offence. At this rate she’ll get let of the third offence entirely.
