Members of two legendary Shrewsbury Town squads have given their backing to the current team’s bid for promotion at Saturday’s play-off final against Gillingham at Wembley.

More than a dozen people involved with the promotion-winning teams from 1958/59 and 1978/79 joined other former players and staff at a nostalgia night at the Prostar Stadium last night.

Town have now sold almost 18,000 tickets for the League Two showdown. It increased its allocation last week by 4,000 because of demand to a total of 25,000.

Stocks of £36 and £26 priced tickets have temporarily sold out at STFC but are still available through Ticket Zone online and on the Ticket Hotline number 0844 844 4410.

Jon Harris, general manager, said: “We have sold between 17,000 and 18,000 tickets.” He added: “The message we would like to get out now to those who are deliberating ‘should I or shouldn’t I get a ticket’ is to get one.

“One extra voice just might make the difference.”

Mr Harris said that Ticket Zone was also sending a small number of mixed priced tickets which will be available from the ticket office tomorrow from 9am or as soon as they arrive.

He added that merchandise was also flying off the shelves.
