Driver hurt as car crashes
Monday 18th May 2009, 3:59PM BST.
A driver was seriously injured when his car crashed into a field in south Shropshire.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which happened on the A49 near Craven Arms.
The man, who has not been named, was initially taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but was later transferred to the Walsgrave Hospital at Coventry.
He suffered head, chest and spine injuries.
Police said today that he was in a critical but stable condition.
The accident, involving a green Honda Civic Sport, happened shortly before 11.45pm on Friday.
The car left the A49 road north of Craven Arms, near the Traveller’s Rest, and is thought to have rolled over several times in a field.
Sergeant Steve Fitzpatrick, of West Mercia Police, today appealed for anyone who might have seen the accident to come forward.
He said: “We are anxious to hear from anyone who saw the Honda leave the road or who spotted it being driven immediately beforehand.
“We are anxious to trace any witnesses and would urge anyone who can help to contact Ludlow police station on 0300 333 3000.”
He said it appeared no other vehicle was involved and the driver was alone in the car.
