Coal battle gearing up
Monday 18th May 2009, 12:18PM BST.
Residents fighting UK Coal’s plan to create an opencast mine close to The Wrekin are gearing up for their big day tomorrow.
Protest group Friends of the Ercall will be calling clean air campaigner Dr Dick van Steenis to spell out fears that dust from the mine would cause a legacy of asthma for generations to come.
And they will demand UK Coal foots the bill for any damage caused to homes by blasting.
The six-week public inquiry into the proposal will have a new venue from tomorrow – the Holiday Inn, close to Telford International Centre.

Surely in these hard times jobs would be welcome in the area ???

I would like to ask the question, IF there are 40 REAL jobs at this mine, which last for no more than the 36 months to 4 years as stated by UK Coal, HOW MUCH WILL THE EFFECTS OF THE PM2.5 DUST COST THE LOCAL PCT/HEALTH AUTHORITY IN TREATMENT?
Would 40 jobs at 20K per year offset hundreds of Asthma,COPD ,Heart treatments, their cost to our allocated PCT funding, and the consequences of rationed healthcare to the detriment of others?
How much is the first Baby death from an asthma attack worth to the local jobs market – how can this be eqauted?
If this happened to be YOUR child – what benefit would a handful of temporary jobs be worth then?
Before “Tory boy” starts warbling, remember – our local TORY MP opposes this, the TORY led Council oppse this, and MR CAMERON who we have been in contact with for some months now, has his Shadow Community & Local Government department looking at the disparity of Buffer zones and HIAs in Scotland and Wales – but not ENGLAND.
