It’s party time for the Bucks
Saturday 16th May 2009, 11:58AM BST.
AFC Telford United will brush aside the disappointing end to their thrilling season in order to mark their fifth birthday this summer.
The Bucks agonisingly missed out on promotion to the Blue Square Premier as they went down 1-0 in Gateshead in their play-off final last week.
But club bosses are not letting that setback stop them recognising the extraordinary progress made by the new club since it rose from the ashes of the old Telford United in May 2004.
Now they are staging a special evening on Saturday, June 20 – which has been titled ‘Keeping the Dream Alive’ – to enable supporters to come together to mark the landmark.
“We are holding a celebration of those five years at the Whitehouse Hotel and remembering through words and pictures the amazing story we have all been part of,” said event organiser Jonathan Martin.
“It is sure to be a emotional evening for everyone who has been involved with this ‘supporters” football club.
“It will remind us all that we must never forget the past but also look forward to many more years of a football club owned and run by the fans.”
The event will be compered by Tim Beech of Radio Shropshire, and there will be a number of surprise guests making an appearance.
Tickets, including a pie and chips meal, are £12.
They are available to order from Martin on 01939-260099 or 07971-979261 or by e-mail jonathan.martin@afctu.co.uk
