Car club honours friends’ memory
Saturday 16th May 2009, 10:47AM BST.
Up to 150 car enthusiasts are expected to meet in Oswestry town centre on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of a crash which killed three young friends.
Members of the Shropshire Modified and Performance Car Club will gather in the Somerfield car park to pay their respects to Ellesmere women Corinne Thomas and Kiera Smyth, 18, and Liverpool man Robert McLoughlin, 19.
The three friends died after a collision on the A495 road between Whittington and Welsh Frankton on May 17 last year. They were on their way to Oswestry to celebrate Miss Thomas’s 25th birthday.
Suzanne Lednor from the car club said many members of the organisation knew the three friends very well.
She said: “It will be a remembrance meet for them and we will have a two-minute silence during the event to remember them.
“Friends will also read out a tribute to them. They had links to the car club. I was friends with Corinne and many members of the club knew Bob.
“A lot of people were upset about what happened and we thought it was important to do something to remember them.
“Our club is for people who are interested in modified and performance cars, not for boy racers.
“The police will be in attendance at the meet which starts at 7.30pm and we would appeal to everyone to be on their best behaviour.”

i am kiera’s mother, i find the whole event a disgrace. what everyone seems to forget is that rob distroyed 6 families that night through his driving. if his driving is not classed as being a boy racer then what is?kiera and corrine would still be here today raising their sons ……
