Bosses in promise on mail delivery
Saturday 16th May 2009, 6:59PM BST.
Royal Mail bosses will assure Ellesmere residents they will still get first class service when the town’s delivery office closes next month.
A letter to be sent out to all Ellesmere households by the firm promises that post will be delivered at the same time each day by the same person after the move takes place on June 8.
The move will see Ellesmere delivery office close and operations transfer to the Oswestry office, on Maesbury Road. Church Stretton delivery office will be closed and its operations transferred to Craven Arms on the same day.
The letter, from delivery sector manager Richard Moulton, will also explain how mail can be redelivered if not collected, and promises people all facilities will still be available at Oswestry.
The letter reads: “I’m writing to let you know that on Monday June 8 your local Royal Mail delivery office is relocating from Ellesmere.
“From that date your mail will be prepared for delivery at our Oswestry office but you should not notice any change to your postal service.”
It adds: “All the facilities you may be familiar with at Ellesmere will continue to be available at Oswestry.”
The letter comes as town councillors have demanded Royal Mail bosses hold a public meeting before the closure takes place.
Ellesmere Town Council will discuss the issue at its next meeting on June 1.
