Town were handed a scare on Sunday when Holt was forced off at half-time in extra-time of the play-off semi-final success at Bury following a bruising battle with defender Efe Sodje.

The 28-goal hitman suffered a chest injury but is extremely confident he will be fit for the final with Gillingham on Saturday week.

“I have got no doubt I will be fine for Wembley,” said the 28-year-old Holt, who would be making his first appearance at the National Stadium.

“It’s just a case of letting the bruising go down on my chest.

“I will probably be training the latter end of this week, depending on what the physio (Nathan Ring) says, and it gives me the opportunity to rest a couple of the knocks and bruises I’ve picked up along the way.

“There are no problems. I will be there or thereabouts – as long as the manager decides he wants to play me in that team.”

Holt admitted he was disappointed to be forced off in Sunday’s pulsating triumph – but was thrilled to see the team move within one victory of promotion to League One at the end of a roller-coaster season.

“I took a bit of a knock in the 70th minute and I didn’t really recover for the rest of the game,” he added.

“I took a blow to the chest and struggled to breathe a little bit.

“I had a chat with the manager (Paul Simpson) before the end of the game and he said ‘see how long you can last’ – and in the end it was too much to carry on.

“You never want to come off but we are delighted we got the job done and I’m thrilled for all the lads, management and backroom staff.

“Everyone at the club deserves exactly what we have got.

“We have done a lot of hard work to get into this situation.

“We have had a lot of highs and some real lows with the away results this season – but we have turned that around now.”
