Football can stop cricket

Wembley fever is sweeping across Shropshire – and some of the county’s cricket clubs have the chance to allow their players to be part of Shrewsbury Town’s big day.
Officials of the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire League will give teams the opportunity to postpone their fixture on Saturday, May 23, when Town take on Gillingham in the League Two play-off final.
Both captains must agree to the postponement and the matches must be played either the following day or on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.
“We know that a lot of our players throughout the county are Shrewsbury fans and we thought this was the right step to take to enable them to cheer on their team at Wembley,” said league publicity officer Adam Phillips.
The news comes just 24 hours after officials at the Marston’s Shropshire Premier League ruled their seven games will go ahead as scheduled.
