A total of 20 people were arrested following the disorder on Sunday.

Dyfed-Powys Police today said 11 of those arrested have since been given fixed penalty notices for public order offences and released.

Chief Superintendent Steve Hughson, of Welshpool police, said: “My officers were faced with a significant level of violence involving about 30 people at the Withy Beds site.

“I would like to offer my praise to those at the scene who contained the incident and effected the arrest of 20 individuals.

“We will not tolerate such activity and are working hard to ensure there is no repeat.”

The force has also revealed it has stepped up patrols in the town.

Antony Topazio, force spokesman, said: “Police in Welshpool are ensuring an effective police presence is maintained in the area and are continuing to work with all members of the community to provide reassurance and to prevent any re-occurrence.”

Dozens of police officers, riot vans and the force helicopter dealt with the incident.
