Inquest opening on road tragedy

An inquest on an 81-year-old Shropshire man who died after he was hit by a car was due to be opened today.
William Henry Todd, of Cressage, near Shrewsbury, died in hospital on Saturday following the incident which happened shortly after 3am on the A41 at Woodcote, near Newport.
His inquest was due to be opened at Telford & Wrekin coroner’s court at 4.30pm today.
It is understood the police investigating officer will be giving details about the accident at the inquest.
Following the incident on Saturday, Mr Todd was taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital with multiple injuries but efforts to save him failed.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A driver of a Peugeot 206 who was involved in the accident was unhurt but was left shocked by the crash.
Police said Mr Todd had been preparing to set off early on his holidays with his car and caravan when he went from one side of the road to the other taking property to his caravan from his friend’s house and was hit by a car.
Investigators closed the road for four hours on Saturday while they tried to find out what happened to Mr Todd.
Constable Alan Mootham, of Telford police, said Mr Todd was making an early start for his journey to the south coast when the accident happened.
