Scores of south Shropshire villagers found their water supply had run dry today.
People in Ashford Carbonell, near Ludlow, discovered they had no water early this morning after a water main burst.
Parish council vice-chairman Derek Bowden said it looked like a fairly major burst and water was running strongly down the road.
He said: “It has been off since 5am. It is being treated as an emergency because a lot of us are completely without water.”
He said the incident had affected the Huntingdon Lane end of the village.
“Young and old need water,” said Mr Bowden.
“They will have to do something by lunchtime. people can’t be without water for seven or eight hours.”
Grace Marren, for Severn Trent, said: “Unfortunately we had a burst water main in Ashford Carbonell this morning.
“We received 34 calls from customers who either had no water or were experiencing poor water pressure.
“The first call was received at 6.38am. We have now isolated the water main and managed to get all but six properties back on to water supply while we make the repairs.
“We are now working as quickly and safely as possible to make the repairs to the main and we would like to apologise to all our customers affected by this morning’s burst.”
