Dog attacks canal swan
Friday 8th May 2009, 11:05AM BST.
A swan suffered a broken wing after it was attacked by a dog as it sat on its nest of eggs on a Shropshire canal.
The female swan was taken by the RSPCA for treatment after the incident on the Honeysuckle stretch of the Newport Canal.
Alan Evans, Newport water bailiff, found the swan after being alerted to its plight by a passer-by.
He said today: “This is one of the worst incidents I have seen and it’s a sad tale. I now fear for the future of the swans.”
Mr Evans urged pet owners not to let their dogs swim in the canal while swans were nesting.
