Brisbourne’s big surprise
Friday 8th May 2009, 12:39PM BST.
Shropshire Flat trainer Mark Brisbourne made himself look a “complete prat” at Chester’s big three day meeting – but he didn’t care one jot.
Cheshire Prince gave the handler, from Nescliffe near Shrewsbury, his highest profile success of 2009 by landing his fourth win on the Roodee in the Boodles Diamond Velocity Handicap yesterday.
The horse was returned a 25-1 winner and Brisbourne was as surprised as anybody about he success in the extended 1m 2f handicap.
“I’ve made myself look a complete prat,” he said.
“I said he’d be short of a run yesterday.
“I rode a horse in work behind him on Saturday and he had a good blow.
“I thought we hadn’t got to the bottom of him, but I thought this race would put him right for the weeks to come.”
Cheshire Prince’s next target will be the Old Newton Cup at Haydock in July.
