Rallying call to save Royal British Legion clubs
- Today's leader
Telford boss backing Town
Thursday 7th May 2009, 12:00PM BST.
We’re right behind you – that was the message to Shrewsbury Town today from Rob Smith, manager of non-League neighbours AFC Telford United, writes CHRIS HUDSON.
Smith will take a break from his preparations for Telford’s Blue Square North play-off final tomorrow evening to tune in to Town’s first leg clash with Bury tonight.
And he will be keeping his fingers crossed for a Shrewsbury win, having established a healthy working relationship with the Town boss.“I certainly want to wish Paul Simpson all the best,” said Smith.
“I really believe it’s good for the county if all our teams are doing well.
“I know there’s rivalry between the clubs, but it would be amazing if both of us could get promoted this season.
“Paul Simpson has been brilliant for us this year and I’ll be rooting for Shrewsbury tonight.”

Thank you Mr Smith that’s a real sporting gesture. All the very best to Telford tomorrow I am sure that many Shrewsbury fans will be glued to the radio cheering Telford to success and gain their rightful place back in the conference. Win or lose you have had a brilliant season, with the injuries you have had and the fixture pile up its nothing short of miraculous that you are still in there. You have a team of great character.
